Parent Workshops

Everylight Parent Workshops develop a creative ministry to support the spiritual development of children with a variety of projects built around the Everylight core values of silence, conversation, and celebration.

CHILDREN’S SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

This class is based on the book, Real Kids, Read Faith: Practices for Nurturing Children's Spiritual Lives by Karen Marie Yust.

In this workshop we explore the practical advice and resources that Karen offers on how to engage children in authentic faith practice and experiences. We consider the roles of parents, grandparents, teachers, and caregivers as they intentionally support the spiritual and faith formation of our children.

POSITIVE PARENTING

For Parents in Transition

An educational opportunity to support vulnerable parents, in particular those who have been incarcerated. Parents in transition are supported as they work toward positive participation with their children and in their local communities. This class is currently being offered through the Growing Grounds program in Wabash, Indiana, a community collaboration of the Wabash Church of the Brethren and Education for Conflict Resolution.

This is a parenting class with a variety of experiences to affirm and support parents as they seek to improve their parenting skills. The group will be looking at the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets and consider how parents can build assets in their children. The time together will include an idea focus for each week and a time of exploring the focus through active learning and play experiences. Materials to encourage fun and playful interactions will be provided.

The following questions are being asked during the time the group meets together:

What do your children need to feel safe?

What goals do you have for your children?

How can you be positive with your child?

How can you share in conversation with your child?

How can you support your children’s learning?

What can you and your children do to calm down when things get difficult?

How do you solve problems?

What does your family do to enjoy each other?
